Richard (Rick) Kuntz

Richard (Rick) Kuntz recently retired from Medtronic as the company’s Chief Medical and Scientific Officer, where he served as a member on the Company’s Executive Committee. In this role, Kuntz oversaw the company’s medical affairs, health policy and reimbursement, clinical research activities, and corporate technology.

Far from actually “retired,” Dr. Kuntz serves on the boards of Rockley Photonics, ZimVie, and Identiv and has several active research collaborations with medical device and digital health experts at Medtronic, the University of Minnesota, Cleveland Clinic, and other institutions around the country. He is also a working group member of NIH’s Helping to End Addiction Long-term® program.

Prior to his seventeen years at Medtronic, Dr. Kuntz was the founder and chief scientific officer of the Harvard Clinical Research Institute in Boston, a university-based contract research organization that coordinated NIH and industry clinical trials with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He directed numerous multicenter clinical trials and authored more than 250 original peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Kuntz served as an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, chief of the division of clinical biometrics, and as an interventional cardiologist in the division of cardiovascular diseases at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. In addition, he served as a founding Governor of the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, part of the U.S. Affordable Care Act, from 2010-2018.

Dr. Kuntz also served as an advisor to multiple national and regional committees, in the National Academy of Medicine and NIH.

Dr. Kuntz graduated from Miami University and received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He completed his residency and chief residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Parkland Hospital and then completed fellowships in cardiovascular diseases and interventional cardiology at Harvard Medical School and the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. Dr. Kuntz received his Master’s of Science in Biostatistics from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Genevieve Melton-Meaux is a Professor of Surgery, Director for the Center for Learning Health System Sciences, and Core Faculty in the Institute for Health Informatics at the University of Minnesota (U of M). She is a practicing colorectal surgeon with interests in colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, minimally invasive techniques, and individualized treatment plans for complex patients. She serves as the Chief Analytics and Care Innovation Officer for M Health Fairview where she leads its Clinical Variation Reduction program promoting appropriate evidence-based care, enterprise data analytics, and informatics including Clinical Decision Support (CDS) and Health IT optimization and innovation. Her research interests include clinical colorectal surgery, improving note usage in EHRs, evaluating technology solutions in practice, clinical natural language processing (NLP), and improving surgical care with informatics. She serves as the U of M Associate Director for the Clinical NLP-IE Research Group and Clinical Informatics Fellowship Program Director and nationally as American College of Medical Informatics Immediate Past-President and American Medical Informatics Association Board of Directors President-elect and Chair-elect.

Sean O'Neil is Chief Technology Officer at DiaspoCare whose mission is to bring the capacity to individuals who are away to take care of their loved ones’ needs for medicine and healthcare from anywhere in the world. Before that, he was VP Technology at Optum where he led many transformational technology initiatives ranging from the design and implementation of private clouds to standing up ITIL process and technology stacks.

Jaideep Srivastava joined the Department of Computer Science & Engineering in 1988. He currently serves as the Data Science Director of Undergraduate Studies. Srivastava is the co-founder and president of Ninja Metrics, Inc., a start-up company that focuses on analytics for social systems and social media. He spent three years at Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), a flagship institute of Qatar Foundation, as Research Director and Chief Scientist. Additionally, he has spent significant time in the industry, including stints as the Chief Technology Officer for Persistent Systems, the Director of Data Analytics for Yodlee, Inc., an data mining architect for Amazon.
