Smart Medical Devices: Creating value and whole person health

Session Organizer: William (Bill) Betten, S3 Connected Health

Historically medical devices were the central focus of both the medical device company as well as the health care practitioner. The device provided the physician with the ability to diagnose, prevent, or treat a disease. Medical devices have evolved, to allow for data to be generated that can be interpreted by the medical expert to enable more informed diagnoses and treatment. As technology continued to advance, smaller, more accurate, and connected devices could produce and send that data outside of the immediate location.

This panel will discuss the evolution of smart devices to provide care outside of the traditional hospital setting. It will examine the development of devices that range from diagnostics to monitoring and treatment. The role that these devices play and how they integrate into the medical workflow will also be covered, as will the business models required for success.
